  1. Does my son/daughter need a new bike to participate in this training?
No.  However, they will need a bike in good working condition. This can be a road bike, mountain bike, hybrid, or any bike with gears.  The main concern is that the bike is appropriately sized and mechanically sound.
  1. What kind of prior experience does my son/daughter need to be successful?
Although no prior triathlon experience is needed, children should be active and in good physical shape.  Competitive swimming is not a requirement, but participants should be able to swim.
  1. What will the training focus on?
Our focus will be development in all three disciplines – swimming, biking and running.  Our Sunday practices will focus on swimming and running while the Thursday practices will target biking and running.   Participants will be expected to carry out some additional training on their own for optimal development.

  2. What races do you compete in?  We will compete in series of two triathlons in May and June which take place in the San Dimas area.  These are not mandatory races, but we do encourage team members to register for these events.
  1. Do you bike and run on the open roads or in traffic?
No.  All of our biking takes place along the multi-use bike/running path next to Yorba Regional Park.  We will not ride on open city streets.
  1. What is a triathlon?  What is the distance?
A triathlon is an event involving swimming, biking, and running.  The order is swim, bike, and run.   The short distance races consist of a 300 yard swim, 8 mile bike, and a 3 mile run.
